Unreasonable

Empowering Women & Girls In Pakistan To Be Educated and Employed

On an otherwise reasonable evening, more than 1,000 people packed an auditorium in Boulder, Colorado, for the culmination of the 2011 Unreasonable Institute. They came to see 27 ventures  present their solutions to some of the world’s greatest challenges.

Saba Gul, Co-Founder and Executive Director of Popinjay (formerly Bliss), shares how her venture is providing the sustainable education and employment solutions for girls and women living in Pakistan.

Popinjay produces handmade, one-of-a-kind fashion accessories that combine luxurious craftsmanship and ethical business. The company spends months finding some of the world’s most skilled artisans, embroiderers, pattern-makers and seamstresses to bring the finest workmanship—and it shows in every product they create. When a Popinjay product is purchased, there’s a trust that it will be handmade, high-quality, and a unique creation of its own.

Popinjay invites you to think about who makes the products you buy, and how their lives are impacted by it. Popinjay offers artisan women practical training, fantastic wages, dignity and a path to self-sufficiency. By connecting artisans to global markets, Popinjay brings a fair value for work.
