The morning of our arrival in Cape Town, students, faculty, staff, and Unreasonables on board the Explorer got up early to witness beautiful sunrise over Table Mountain.
The first day in port, the Global Entrepreneuship class taught by Daniel and George headed into the Khayleisha Township for a workshop designed to bring together the local youth with students from the ship.
The workshop, hosted and organized by Nike Foundation, focused on using design thinking to create solutions around communication issues faced by youth in South Africa’s townships.
Our second day in port, SAP hosted a pitch event to bring together Unreasonables and local entrepreneurs and investors along with a handful of students from the ship. Here student Claire Sutton chats with Unreasonable Mentor Prince Fahad al Saud, who embarked in Cape Town.
The winners of the judged event were Cesar Harada and Gabriella Levine of Protei.
Our third night in Cape Town the Unreasonable founders got to mix and mingle with local entrepreneurs at Moyo cafe hosted by Silcon Cape.
The time spent in South Africa was rounded out by an evening of traditional food, dance, and drumming from all over Africa organized by Deaftronic’s Tendekayi Katsiga at The Africa Cafe.
What Happened Over the Course of the Week
The MV Explorer, floating home of Unreasonable At Sea, pulled into port into sunny Cape Town in late March and immediately spilled a shipload of hungry entrepreneurs, students, and mentors into this bustling African capital. The city responded in force with a bevy of fantastic events and generous hosts, proving itself to be one of our busiest and most productive destinations yet. From interacting with township youth on the ground to pitching to a room full of Cape Town’s biggest movers and shakers to nights of celebration over African food and drink, many of us can’t wait to return.
