Think about Bob Dylan, and among the many topics that will come to mind, \u201cseries B funding\u201d or &#8220;IPO&#8221; will not be one.<\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, singer-songwriters\u2019 stock in the trade is crafting songs about the lives they live. So if the musician in question\u2019s day job were launching companies, we might get a song like \u201cSorry I\u2019m Not Sorry,\u201d an ode to entrepreneurship written by John-Paul Maxfield, founder and president of the agri-business startup Waste Farmers. \u201cWe\u2019re all artists,\u201d Maxfield says, in describing the connection between his day and night jobs. \u201cBusiness, the guitar, etcetera are just the vehicles through which we spread our messages.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"right\"><p>Business, the guitar, etcetera are just the vehicles through which we spread our messages.<span id=\"tweetquote\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/intent\/tweet?url=http:\/\/ow.ly\/DWIpG&amp;via=unreasonable&amp;text=&quot;Business, the guitar, etcetera are just the vehicles through which we spread our messages&quot;\"><i class=\"fa fa-twitter\"><\/i> Tweet This Quote<\/a><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Maxfield comes from a family of farmers and ranchers\u2014the first entrepreneurs\u2014and is the founding president of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wastefarmers.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Waste Farmers<\/a>, a sustainable agriculture company that produces and sells organic soils and fertilizers, and the founder of the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/inspiredeconomist.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Inspired Economist<\/a>. He\u00a0strives to live at the intersection of healthy lifestyles, homes, and food. And, while a farmer at heart, Maxfield recognizes that he is a wolf in sheep&#8217;s clothing. He remains comfortable putting on a tie\u2014talking to a room full of executives and bankers\u2014but at heart, he\u2019s a rebel in Carhartts. The lyrics of the song state that, &#8220;just sheep following sheep, but the herder\u2019s inside. We long to bash down those fences and graze the other side.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The lyrics define entrepreneurial success for Maxfield. It\u00a0stems from a mental transformation: the realization that entrepreneurship is a mindset that enables him to see business as an instrument for communication\u2014just like the guitar. \u201cThe lightbulb that went off was not an idea,\u201d Maxfield says, \u201cbut a realization that I had be comfortable being an agent of change\u2014acknowledging that I can be one. Maxfield says, &#8220;It started with an idea\u2026 and the idea needs a great team to become a great song and connect with others. They add their pieces and it takes on a new life.
