When Trump stumped on building the wall during his campaign, the airline (and agency <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ogilvy.com.mx\/\" target=\"_blank\">Ogilvy Mexico<\/a>) responded with a brilliant ad kicking walls in the balls. Check it out here.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"1080\" height=\"608\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/-8vDwiwlnmI?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-US&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p>This ad is a wonderful lesson on how to turn resistance into art. There\u2019s sex, there\u2019s grainy black and white, there\u2019s raw brutality \u2013 and there\u2019s a tagline. A tagline I\u2019d give my Montblanc for.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cBorders. On land they can maintain distances. But in the sky, they mean nothing. That\u2019s a brand impression if ever I saw one.<\/p>\n<p>The Aeromexico ad was a high water mark. But as far as I\u2019m concerned, it\u2019s just a sign of things to come. Because as Trump demonstrated by signing his <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2017\/01\/28\/politics\/donald-trump-executive-order-immigration-reaction\/\" target=\"_blank\">anti-Muslim immigration order<\/a> a few days after coming into office, there\u2019s going to be plenty of material to work with in the coming months.<\/p>\n<h2>Justin and #WelcomeToCanada<\/h2>\n<p>Shortly after Trump signed the order, the Aeromexico ad leapt back into the social media spotlight. Meanwhile, Canada\u2019s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau \u2013 himself a master marketer \u2013 officially welcomed immigrants from the banned countries to Canada, positioning our country brilliantly in the process.<\/p>\n<p>As reported in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/news\/world\/americas\/donald-trump-justin-trudeau-canada-immigration-ban-muslim-countries-a7552186.html\" target=\"_blank\">The Independent<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cMr. Trudeau made the heartfelt plea on social media and also uploaded an image of him greeting a Syrian child at Toronto airport.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cTo those fleeing persecution, terror &amp; war, Canadians will welcome you, regardless of your faith. Diversity is our strength #WelcomeToCanada,\u201d he tweeted.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The tweet has received over 369,000 retweets so far and \u201cWelcome to Canada\u201d began trending in the country.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Yes, he tweeted out his welcome. 140 characters that, if we actually live up to our words, could have a profoundly positive impact on our brand image, not to mention our global brand in trade and tourism.<\/p>\n<h2>Marketers, Align With Issues<\/h2>\n<p>Trump is signing executive orders like a clown handing out candy. There is no shortage of material to work with here, folks. Smart marketers who want to build alliances of beliefs with outraged citizens might think about how to tie their brand to issues such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Defending the Affordable Care Act<\/li>\n<li>Defending women\u2019s access to Planned Parenthood<\/li>\n<li>Defending climate change policy<\/li>\n<li>\u2026And the list goes on.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<blockquote class=\"right\"><p>Trump is signing executive orders like a clown handing out candy. Aeromexico\u2019s insight (borders mean nothing when you\u2019re thinking at a higher level \/ in the air) is core to their business. If a clothing manufacturer had done the ad, it would\u2019ve come off as cloying and opportunistic.<\/p>\n<p>However, if you understand what you stand for, and to whom, this is a golden opportunity.
