Read on to discover the true meaning of humility and why it&#8217;s so important to building a great organization.<\/em><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"color: #808080;\"><em>The author of this post, <a href=\"https:\/\/wary-sunlight.flywheelsites.com\/author\/Seth\/\" target=\"_blank\">Seth Levine<\/a>, is a Boulder, CO based technology investor and managing director at Foundry Group.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>This advice would seem obvious, if only more people followed it. <\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"right\"><p>Humility over pride<span id=\"tweetquote\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/intent\/tweet?url=https:\/\/wary-sunlight.flywheelsites.com\/opinion\/why-entrepreneurs-need-to-remain-humble-in-less-than-200-words\/&amp;via=unreasonable&amp;text=&quot;Humility over pride&quot;\"><i class=\"fa fa-twitter\"><\/i> &nbsp;Tweet This Quote<\/a><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p> I was attending a board meeting recently where a company put up the following as one of its core values: \u201cHumility over pride\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As I think about how often I interact with people who are so ego-centric and hubris; as I consider how seldom these people show any self-awareness or emotional intelligence; and as I reflect on how universally unpleasant it is to work with people who put themselves first, it reinforces how critically important this principal is.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Humility over pride means giving before getting.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Humility over pride means playing a non zero-sum game where everyone benefits.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Humility over pride means listening before reacting.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Humility over pride means admitting when you\u2019re wrong or when someone else has a better idea.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Humility over pride means putting your organization or company\u2019s goals over your own.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It was refreshing to see this company be so explicit about this principle.
