Connected Energy has developed its E-STOR technology to enable low-cost second life electric vehicle (EV) batteries to be deployed as commercially viable stationary energy storage systems. The company has developed a battery-agnostic control platform, which (in collaboration with the EV original equipment manufacturers) can be used to control any EV battery. Systems using Renault, Nissan, and Jaguar Land Rover batteries are now operating in the UK, Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands. End users benefit from reduced energy costs, new or increased revenue streams, access to greater electricity capacity and improved resilience of supply. Working with strategic investors Engie, Sumitomo and Macquarie, Connected Energy is also developing new business models for second life battery-based systems, and is building a project pipeline to capitalise on the ramp-up of battery availability. As a key link in the future electric vehicle value chain, Connected Energy has formed partnerships with EV manufacturers, energy utilities and battery recyclers to capitalise on its market-leading position.

Notable Achievements

  • Partnered with Renault Groupe to reuse over 1,000 batteries for second-life energy storage system.
  • Partners and collaborators include Engie, Renault-Nissan, Jaguar-Landrover, EDF Energy, BMW, Bentley, EMR, Allego, and Statkraft.
  • E-STOR is installed at several sites totalling 3MW and we are currently increasing this capacity with an upcoming 12MW system.
