Improving access to affordable menstrual protection for women and girls in over 1,300 villages across India.

Currently, 88 percent of women in India don't have access to sanitary pads, forcing them to use newspapers, ashes, sand husks, and dried leaves as menstrual protection. As a result of these unhygienic practices, more than 70 percent of women suffer from reproductive tract infections, increasing the risk of associated cancers. By creating a first-of-its-kind, ultra low-cost machine that makes sanitary pads, Jayaashree Industries not only helps to efficiently produce affordable sanitary pads, but also employs women who can learn the pad-making process in as few as three hours. To date, more than 1,300 machines have been made and installed across 27 states in India and seven other countries.
