ClearFlame Engine Technologies

Decarbonizing heavy-duty transportation industries.

Employees 21–50
Headquarters Geneva, Illinois, United States
Founded in 2016 as a Black- and Women-founded and led business, ClearFlame Engine Technologies is developing a cost-effective solution to decarbonize the “hard-to-electrify” segments of the transportation sector. Their target markets include engines and vehicles in the long-haul trucking, agricultural, construction, and other non-road diesel engine sectors that have decades of use. By breaking the bond between the diesel engine and diesel fuel, ClearFlame engines eliminate the emissions of diesel particulate matter (PM) and NOx that increase asthma emergencies and threaten health in disadvantaged communities that live with disproportionate levels of diesel pollution, while also reducing GHG emissions.

Notable Achievements

  • Raised a $17M Series A in 2021. The round was led by Breakthrough Energy Ventures and joined by Clean Energy Ventures, John Deere, Phoenix Global Resources, Mercuria and more.
  • Signed MOUs with Reviva and Vander Haag’s, Inc., and successfully integrated ClearFlame’s technology into a Class-8 truck, validating the ability to seamlessly bring ClearFlame’s technology to scale using existing transportation solution providers and supply chains.
  • Began first pilot fleet trials of Class-8 trucks with Beck’s, highlighting strong interest from commercial fleets.
