Avishek Kumar

Co-Founder and Advisor at VFlow Tech

Dr. Avishek Kumar is the Co-Founder of VFlowTech Pte Ltd, a pioneering Singapore-based company that has emerged as a global leader in long-duration energy storage. VFlowTech was spun out from over a decade of research into flow battery technology and advanced energy storage systems, and under Dr. Kumar’s leadership, it has become one of the fastest-growing players in the global clean energy ecosystem. Dr. Kumar holds a PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the National University of Singapore (NUS), where his doctoral research focused on advanced materials and scalable storage solutions. He also earned a Master of Science in Microelectronics from the Nanyang Technology University (NTU), equipping him with a unique blend of expertise in electronics, renewable energy, and systems engineering. This strong academic foundation has guided his career at the intersection of cutting-edge research and real-world industrial deployment. At VFlowTech, Dr. Kumar has overseen the successful fundraising of more than US$35 million from a strong consortium of global investors, including strategic corporate partners and sovereign funds. This capital is being deployed to accelerate the commercial rollout of VFlowTech’s vanadium-based long-duration storage systems across Asia, the Middle East, and Africa, regions where the need for resilient and sustainable energy infrastructure is particularly urgent. His vision is to make long-duration storage affordable, scalable, and a cornerstone of the global transition toward net-zero emissions.
Before founding VFlowTech, Dr. Kumar made notable contributions to the solar energy industry. He was one of the principal developers of high-efficiency half-cut PERC Mono solar modules, a breakthrough innovation that contributed to a 30% reduction in global solar PV module costs. This advancement transformed the economics of solar deployment and helped enable the large-scale adoption of renewable energy worldwide. In parallel, he has been involved in the deployment of more than 1 GW of solar and energy storage projects globally, spanning diverse geographies and applications.
A serial entrepreneur, Dr. Kumar has co-founded three deep-tech companies in the fields of IoT, solar energy, and energy storage. Each of these ventures has been successfully scaled into impactful businesses that bring advanced technologies to market and deliver measurable contributions to the clean energy transition. His expertise lies not only in technology development but also in manufacturing scale-up, supply chain management, and commercial execution—skills that are critical in bridging the gap between research laboratories and industrial adoption. In addition to his role at VFlowTech, Dr. Kumar serves on the board of Wardwizard Innovations & Mobility Limited, an electric vehicle manufacturing company. His board position reflects his broader commitment to advancing sustainable mobility alongside clean energy. He has also been invited to share insights at global energy forums, policy roundtables, and academic conferences, where he continues to shape the conversation on energy resilience and the future of storage technologies.
