Calvin is an Unreasonable Mentor.
Calvin's career spans time as social entrepreneur, investor, and entrepreneur.
As a social entrepreneur, Calvin co-founded BrainMind, a national nonprofit building on the
intersection of neuroscience, entrepreneurship, social finance, community, and contemplative traditions. BrainMind launched with Reid Hoffman as its Advisory Chair and Stanford and MIT as founding partners. BrainMind’s community of over 2,000 people included Nobel, Kyoto, and Breakthrough prize-winning scientists, impact-focused serial entrepreneurs, leaders in venture capital and private equity, the most prolific philanthropists in neuroscience and mental health, BRAIN Initiative leaders, award-winning journalists, Olympic medalists, internationally recognized artists, and senior executives of the most influential biotech companies. With this community and incubator, they launched Alto Neuroscience (NYSE: ANRO), Sanmai Technologies, Rhythmic Health, Saturn5,
Cloud Sangha, Reveri Health, and other neurotech and mental wellbeing companies.
As an investor, he co-created Gigafund, the largest investor in the SpaceX Series H financing, which invested $125m into SpaceX in 2017. He was a healthcare investor in growth equity (Capricorn Healthcare) and at a $49 billion dollar private equity fund (Genstar Capital). At these funds, he raised and invested over a billion dollars of equity and debt capital. He began his career in New York at Lazard in the M&A group.
As an operator and entrepreneur at Healthy Living at Home, a home health and hospice provider he invested in while at Capricorn, he joined the executive team in launching 16 de novo agencies in one year and profitably scaled the business to nine digits of revenue.
Calvin graduated with honors from Emory University, with a degree in Finance.
Calvin is a QuestBridge Scholar, a member of the QuestBridge Alumni Advisory Board, and a Director of the Global Leadership Incubator.
