Emilie Vanpoperinghe
Co-founder & CEO at Oddbox
Emilie is an Unreasonable Fellow. Emilie was part of Unreasonable Impact UK & Europe 2021.
Emilie is CEO & co-founder of Oddbox.
Oddbox is a weekly rescue mission. A certified B-Corp focused on reducing food waste and fostering conscious consumerism.
Through a supply-led model, Oddbox rescues fresh produce at risk of going to waste (deemed ‘too odd’ or ‘too many’ for UK supermarkets) alongside low packaging ambient grocery items and delivers it directly to customers' doorsteps. The business empowers its customers to cook delicious meals centered around their rescued veg via a regular delivery.
In 2016, Emilie and her partner launched Oddbox to a small pool of London-based customers, handling distribution and logistics themselves. Over the past 10 years the organisation has experienced tremendous growth, now turning over £30m per annum and servicing 70% of the UK.
Since its inception, Oddbox has distributed over 10m boxes, with its community rescuing a whopping 60k tonnes of fruit and veg - that’s enough to feed everyone in the City of Canterbury for 2 years.
Before starting Oddbox, Emilie was Director of Finance & Operations for an international NGO set up by the Nike Foundation and working in developing countries to empower adolescent girls to reach their potential. Before that, she worked for 10 years in finance in the corporate sector in France, India and the UK.
Emilie is originally from northern France and has been in the UK for the past 15 years. Her grandparents were potato farmers and so she knows what it takes to grow fresh produce.
