Joel Christiansen

I am the Senior Product Engineer on Unreasonable's technology team. I build and maintain Unreasonable’s technology ecosystem and handle software, data, design, and AI projects in service to our Fellowship of growth-stage entrepreneurs and global community of mentors, investors, and partners. I love bringing people together and supporting entrepreneurs who are taking bold, collaborative action on important causes.

Before joining Unreasonable, I worked as a software engineer for a Seattle-based legal technology startup that was acquired in 2022. Before that, I worked as a lawyer based in Portland, Oregon, where I focused on business immigration (O-1A/B "extraordinary ability" visas and employment-based green cards) and advocated for labor-aligned causes in judicial, administrative, and legislative contexts. I was nominated to Thomson Reuters' Super Lawyers list for 8 consecutive years before my career pivot into technology work.

I grew up in Wisconsin and have lived in the Pacific Northwest for most of my adult life. I currently live in Washington State with my partner Sarah and our three dogs, Gus, Namgil, and Sukhee. My interests outside of work include bicycling, sailing, hiking, music, reading, and learning.
