Joel has been with Unreasonable since 2022. Joel has participated in 6 programs, including Unreasonable Impact UK & Europe 2026.

I am the Senior Product Engineer on Unreasonable's tech team. I help build and maintain Unreasonable’s technology ecosystem. I work on software, data, design, and AI projects in service to our Fellowship of growth-stage entrepreneurs and global community. I love bringing people together and supporting entrepreneurs who are taking bold and collaborative action on pressing global issues.

Before joining Unreasonable, I worked as a software engineer for a Seattle-based legal technology startup that was acquired in 2022. Before that, I worked as a lawyer based in Portland, Oregon, where I focused on business immigration (O-1A/B "extraordinary ability" visas and employment-based immigration cases) and advocated for labor-aligned causes in judicial, administrative, and legislative contexts. I was nominated to Thomson Reuters' Super Lawyers list for 8 consecutive years before my career pivot into technology.

I grew up in West Bend, Wisconsin and currently live in Vancouver, Washington with my partner Sarah and our three dogs, Gus, Namgil, and Sukhee. My interests outside of work include bicycling, sailing, hiking, music, reading, and learning.
