Joel Christiansen

I'm a software engineer on the Unreasonable team. I build and maintain Unreasonable’s digital platform (Eco) and work on internal software, data, and design projects in service to our community. I love bringing people together and providing collaborative support to entrepreneurs who are taking bold action on causes that advance the greater good.

Immediately before joining Unreasonable, I worked as a software engineer for a Seattle-based Series A legal technology startup that was acquired in 2022. Before that, I was a lawyer based in Portland, Oregon for 12 years, where I focused on business immigration ("extraordinary ability" visas and employment-based green cards) and advocated for individual and small business clients in judicial, administrative, and legislative contexts. I was nominated to Thomson Reuters' Super Lawyers list for 8 consecutive years before my career pivot into technology work.

I grew up in Wisconsin and have lived in the Pacific Northwest for most of my adult life. I currently live in Vancouver, Washington with my partner and three dogs, Gus, Namgil, and Sukhee. My interests outside of work include bicycling, sailing, hiking, music, reading, and learning.
