Pierre Theodore

Pierre R. Theodore is a Vice President of Global Public Health and Medical Affairs at Johnson & Johnson. In this role, he is responsible for driving the adoption of medical device and pharmaceutical innovations to advance the standard of care worldwide for underserved surgical patients. Dr. Theodore serves on the adjunct faculty at Stanford University in the Department of Cardiac Surgery where he remains in clinical practice.
Dr. Theodore has over two decades of experience in cardiothoracic surgery, surgical education, entrepreneurship, and innovation.  He focused on minimally invasive surgical approaches in thoracic surgery, interventional pulmonary procedures, and Global Surgery initiatives to expand surgical capacity in low-income countries.
Pierre has served as an advisor to numerous venture capital and private equity firms in Silicon Valley, helping to guide strategy in healthcare investments across the digital health, biotech, and medical device sectors. Pierre served in the United States Navy Reserve Medical Officer Corps, holding the rank of Commander.
After obtaining an undergraduate degree in Philosophy from Princeton University, Pierre received his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Virginia. He completed general surgical and cardiothoracic surgical training at Johns Hopkins Hospital and Hôpital Universitaire Pitié-Salpêtrière in Paris. Pierre completed a post-doctoral fellowship at the Massachusetts General Hospital Transplant Biology Research Center, Harvard Medical School.
Pierre is based in San Francisco is the father of two and an avid, if slow, cyclist.
