Ramya Swaminathan

Ramya is an Unreasonable Fellow. Ramya was part of Unreasonable Impact Americas 2021.
Ramya is the Founder of Malta Inc, which is developing utility-scale, long-duration energy storage technology. She led the spin-out of Malta from X, Google’s Moonshot Factory, and leads the company’s vision to enable a sustainable, just transition from fossil fuels to clean energy. 
 
She currently serves as a member of the U.S. Secretary of Energy’s Electricity Advisory Committee, and as a Clean Energy Education and Empowerment (C3E) Initiative Ambassador for the US DoE. She also serves on the Advisory Board for National Grid New England and on the Board of Resources for the Future.
 
Before founding Malta, she was the CEO of Rye Development, a hydropower development firm that she grew to be the leading developer of new hydropower projects in the US. She expanded Rye’s platform into pumped hydro storage in a JV with National Grid. Previously, she was a public finance banker and senior managed more than $10 billion in financings. She holds a Master’s in Public Policy from the John F. Kennedy School of Government and a BA in Anthropology from Amherst College.
