Rebecca is an Unreasonable Fellow. Rebecca was part of Unreasonable Impact Americas 2022.
Dr. Rebecca White is Chief Product Officer of Avalo, Inc., a crop biotech company using AI and evolution to generate crop resilience through gene discovery. Previously, she served as CTO then CEO of Pebble Labs, Inc., an ag biotech company in Los Alamos, New Mexico, and CTO/COO for its sister company, Trait Biosciences. She has almost 20 years of experience in bioscience-based industries, across a number of product types. As a Ph.D. scientist with a strong business, coaching, and organizational development background, Rebecca is experienced in commercialization of both novel microbial and plant-based products, technology transfer from lab to field, and scale up of processes and businesses. Dr. White brings her passion for people, science and business together by leading organizations through commercialization and to success.
Dr. White was previously Vice President of Operations for Qualitas Health, Inc., maker of iWi®, a Houston based food and nutrition company making algae-based products, and prior to that, worked for Sapphire Energy, an algal biofuels company. Dr. White's work on “algae as agriculture”, with demonstrated success at both Sapphire and Qualitas, and her role as a vocal proponent for algae as a crop helped to position algae for inclusion in the 2018 farm bill as a crop, a tremendous win for the algae industry as a whole. She received her Honors B.Sc. degree in Biology from University of North Texas and her Ph.D. in Microbiology from Texas A&M University, where she was an NSF Graduate Research Fellow.
Dr. White was named an Unreasonable Fellow in the Unreasonable and BarclaysUnreasonable Impact Americas 2022 program, and a Farm Foundation Roundtable Fellow in 2026. She also advises for agtech and biotech companies in the US, Europe, and Australia, and serves on multiple boards.
