Unreasonable Mentors

Sally Rushton

MD, Head of Power, Utilities and Infrastructure EME

Sally is an Unreasonable Mentor. Sally was part of Unreasonable Impact UK & Europe 2018, and has advised over 11 Unreasonable companies.
As Group Head of the Power, Utilities and Infrastructure Advisory team in Europe, I oversee a team of 25+ professionals who cover the European Corporates that operate in our sector (e.g. EDF, National Grid, Eon, Iberdrola) and the Financial Investors that invest capital in the sector (European Infrastructure Funds – e.g. Macquarie, Global Infrastructure Partners and Infracapital). We are a team of product-agnostic sector experts which means that, in offering our advisory services to clients, we are able to represent the full product suite Barclays Investment Bank has to offer – be that M&A advisory, capital structuring, debt capital markets, liability management and so on. We also connect with the wider Barclays Group offering (e.g. account bank services) as appropriate. This enables us to ensure our clients receive the best independent advice for their given set of circumstances and goals – our aim is to become our clients trusted advisors – and first call.
My personal background is that I have worked at Barclays for over 20 years - predominantly in the UK utility and infrastructure space. I have coverage responsibility for National Grid, Centrica, all of the UK water companies including Thames Water, Yorkshire Water and prior to taking over the Group Head position, was responsible for our coverage of Infrastructure Funds.  As such, I have senior level connectivity with the top tier of Infrastructure Investors operating in Europe – many of which will deploy equity cheques of €1bn+ in support of a single investment. I have been involved in several of the transformational pan European transactions in our space in recent years, including the Defence of Severn Trent against a takeover bid by a group of Financial investors, National Grid’s sale of their Gas Distribution Networks to a consortium of Infrastructure Investors and this year’s take private of Telecom Denmark by a Macquarie-led consortium of pension funds.

Prior to working at Barclays I trained as a Chartered Accountant at KPMG.
