Group Ethics & Sustainability Manager - John Lewis Partnership: transforming food systems through growth in fairer and more sustainable supply chains

Sam is an Unreasonable Mentor. Sam has participated in 3 programs, including Unreasonable Food 2024, and has advised over 39 Unreasonable companies.
I work to transform food systems through growth in ethical and sustainable supply chains for food products and ingredients because doing so is one of the biggest levers for positive change in the world to deliver sustainable development, protect and restore nature, and mitigate climate change. I currently manage the responsible sourcing of raw material commodities used in food products for the John Lewis Partnership (inc. Waitrose). This includes leading on deforestation and deforestation risk commodities such as palm, cocoa, soya, and responsibility for sourcing initiatives to improve the livelihoods of smallholders that grow, and those that pick and process commodities such as tea, coffee, and sugar. Previously I have worked in research, philanthropy, lobbying, and science communications - all with a focus on food systems, climate and biodiversity.
