SunCulture is a climate-tech platform for rural emerging markets. SunCulture is scaling a proprietary technology platform that switches rural African farmers from carbon-emitting fuel pumps to solar-powered irrigation, then on-sells other productive goods and services. SunCulture uses carbon revenues and financial services to make solar-powered irrigation more affordable than dirty fuel pumps. SunCulture is the largest distributor of solar irrigation for smallholder farmers in sub-Saharan Africa. The company operates a sales, engineering, and retail network across multiple African countries, ensuring access to modern irrigation at a 45% discount to monthly costs of petrol and diesel irrigation, within the $65b market for irrigation in Africa. Their mission is to increase smallholder farmer yields, incomes, and food security.

Notable Achievements

  • Over $50m in funding raised to date
  • Over 40,000 smallholder farms served across sub-Saharan Africa
  • 80,000 + tonnes of carbon avoided to date
